Welcome to Denderam IRD e.V.

We are a non-profit association that was founded on 22.09.2023. The aim of our association is to improve

and make water available to the rural community and regions in Ethiopia (e.g. drilling wells, etc.).

We are committed to improving the living and working conditions of farmers through better farming,

animal husbandry, agricultural technology and general technology for homes and farms and the region's infrastructure (e.g. solar systems, drilling equipment, etc.).

A further aim of our association is to support and improve women through education and training by means of financial aid and microcredits.

In addition, our association plans to get involved in Berlin schools to raise awareness of the sustainable use of water and to promote intercultural exchange between young people.

About Us

"When the well is dry, we know the worth of water." – Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father of the USA.

Name of our Organisation:

Denderam is the name of the village in Ethiopia where I (Dr. Tarekegn Melese) was born, and I.R.D. stands for Integrated Rural

Development.

Denderam and surrounding villages integrated rural development

Although in a rural development program includes all activities that will improve the lives of community members, we want to start with providing water for the farmers,

their animals and their crops by digging wells. We also want to support the pupils who complete the 8th grade.

Otherwise, the girls could be forced into marriage while the boys wander around the cities in search of work, which is scarce. This must be avoided.

The project area with its center in Denderam is located in Gojjam/Ethiopia between the towns of Debre Markos and Amanuel, a few

kilometers from the main road. The population is mainly engaged in mixed farming (arable and livestock), and the number of inhabitants

and the area to be supplied depend on our ability to realize the project.

Objectives:

IRD Denderam works in line with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Depending on our financial capacity, all 17

Sustainable Development Goals and the 5 P's (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership) are covered. Closer cooperation with

the relevant ministries (agriculture, education, health, etc.) is necessary to achieve our goals:

1. less poverty and no hunger

2. better health care (reducing child mortality and improving maternal health)

3. quality education (supporting village schools and children when they move to larger cities to attend secondary school)

4. gender equality (strengthening the role of women in the development of their community)

5. clean water and sanitation

6. affordable and sustainable energy sources (biogas/water/solar energy)

7. combating environmental degradation through reforestation and proper/economical use of water for private and agricultural purposes

8. promotion of handicraft businesses (weaving, blacksmithing, carpentry and tanning)

Our vision:

We dedicated Ethiopians and Germans envision a community free from poverty, hunger and disease, with equitable and affordable access

to water, energy, education, healthcare and social protection, which is basic human right.
